AboutPhotoSense |
How it all began:
I've always enjoyed taking photographs. Nothing serious for years, just holidays and family occasions, but people often commented that they thought I had "an eye for a good picture".
In the autumn of 2002, I found myself with a few days leave left over and wanted a break with a difference, so booked myself onto a landscape photography course. It was brilliant! I found that, without knowing it, I'd often used the basic rules of composition in my earlier images. Supportive comments from people with many years experience in photography was just the impetus I needed. It gave me the courage to find out what a wider audience thought of my work and how far I could go. I had always been able to look at a person, a scene, even a collection of objects, and immediately visualise them in a frame, as it were, but somehow just assumed everyone could do it.
But as I hope you have discovered by now, PhotoSense isn't just landscapes, it's glamour and promotional photography too. Glamour covers a whole range of subjects and styles, from fashion to romantic and everything in between, including portraiture. It even overlaps promotional photography if the subjects are promoting themselves e.g. entertainers and aspiring models. Promotional photography extends the range further to almost anything, so there's always plenty of variety.
Background:
I was born in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, within site of the famous "Crooked Spire" (you can see my photograph of the spire in the Landscape Gallery). I went to school in Sheffield and Worcester before returning home to Chesterfield to study Computer Science and Economics.
I set my sights on a career in information technology, and my first job was with the Central Electricity Generating Board just across the road from Bankside Power Station (now the Tate Modern) in London. My IT career now spans over 22 years and includes programming, analysis, design, system support and management, mainly in Local Government.
